A necklace holder is used to display and house necklaces, usually featuring hooks or grooved bars from which they may be hung. Often with supporting frames or vertical poles, a necklace holder can accommodate several necklaces at one time. necklace holders may be placed on cabinet doors, walls or desks, depending on what is most convenient for you. jewelry shops, in particular, place their necklace holders in acrylic or glass cases to give consumers a better view.

To buy or to not to buy

That really depends on what you prefer. If you feel that you have the necessary skills, then you are free to make a necklace holder yourself. Besides, it’s not that hard to make a necklace holder anyway as it requires very basic crafts skills to put the whole thing together. However, before you make a necklace holder, it might be a good idea to take note of the different kinds available to give you an idea of what you can make.

Kinds of necklace holders

First of all, there are the necklace racks. necklace racks have at least two grooved bars connected to vertical frames, usually mounted on walls or hung on doors of jewelry cabinets. Depending on the size, they can fit dozens of necklaces, making them ideal for large collections.

Second are the necklace boards, flat cardboard or plastic sheets with a number of grooves running along the top. The bottoms are folded to act as a base, allowing the necklace holder to placed on top of desks, while some are shaped to resemble the human neck.

Last but not the least, there are the necklace stands. Also known as umbrella stands, necklace stands feature curved bars that extend from a stand or a central pole. With flat “feet” working as the base, necklace stands are also usually for use on top of desks. Capacity still ranges depending on the design but most have between three to five bars.

How can I store necklaces and keep them safe from cats?

I’ve read a lot of suggestions about necklace trees and corkboards with pins and mug holders, but none of these address the problem that my cats can get onto pretty much every surface in the house, and dangly shiny necklaces are the coolest thing ever to them.

The necklaces need to be reasonably accessible and visible; solutions like the container store’s acrylic necklace keeper seemed like a good idea at the time, but just results in an unusable tangle once you put the tenth or so necklace in.

DIY instructions are totally welcome if there’s nothing obvious out there.
By “need to be visible” I mean that closing them in a opaque box or hiding them inside a wardrobe aren’t helpful options. I’m in an NYC apartment with no space to add a wardrobe with doors, and there aren’t any closet doors that open out. I’ve got shelves in walls and wall space to mount things.

Did you just say “keep them free from cats”, do your cats wear your necklaces when you’re not looking?, wow very astute felines you have there.

EDIT “keep them in a jewellery box that cats can’t open”….maybe it’s me but I’ve yet to hear of a necklace-stealing cat, let alone one that opens jewellery boxes!.
