Why do some people have difficulty chosing presents, and have no originality?
Recently I had lunch with some former workmates. We always have a lunch before Xmas and buy a little gift each – the unspoken rule is, something very small, less than $5.00AUST. I found little bracelets, made from different chips of stones such as amethyst and turquoise, with a card that explained what their meaning was, eg ” positive life choices” etc. They really loved them. I could have found lots of suitable things for around that price. However, they all chose chocolates. Now, I love chocolates and appreciated the gifts, but isn’t it funny that some people have no idea how to find anything different?
Oh, I don’t mean funny as in “funny ha ha” – I mean isn’t it an interesting character trait in some people?
Actually they have known me for six years, in fact we worked in the same small group and know everything about each other – I guess they just have trouble shopping.

Some people have a hard time being creative, or they dont have time to put thought into every one of their gifts, so they go with something ‘safe’. I prefer gifts with a little thought in them, then safe gifts. Frankly I’d rather get something I didnt really care for, but knew that the giver put a lot of thought into it, than a safe gift that I did like, but knew that it was a last minute decision that was given absolutely no thought at all. Sometimes, it is the thought that counts.
I have a niece that refuses to give me a list for christmas or her birthday. She’s done this for years, and I recently found out that she gives absolutely everybody else in her entire family a list except me. I was a little offended at first until her mother told me that she does that on purpose. She said she hated giving me lists because I always bought her really cool presents that she wouldnt think of on her own. She doesnt trust anyone else to pick out cool gifts by themselves, so they get lists. I guess i’m a creative gift giver
