Is the energy between any two masses (sun & earth) always less than the energy outside/away from them?
I’m curious as to the relationship of an objects mass and the energy between itself and another smaller or larger object. Would it be ok to imagine over a long enough time line that the total energy outside two objects will always outway the total energy between them? Kind of like the surfer and the beach with the ocean always winning in the end.
Would it be ok to view the exerted force between any two objects on a time line to be finite and the cause of their attraction due to the overwelming “sea” of forces outside them?
I ask these maybe stupid questions because when I see the day to day effect of gravity it seems like everything is held to the earth with bungee cords…more like a stickiness, adhesive or a push than a pull? Maybe the larger the mass the more “bungee” cords between itself and another object? Or could the “cord total reflect” how much energy isn’t there to keep them apart?
Could gravity be the result of a larger exerted force over a smaller exerted force?
The bungee cords you talk about resemble field line representation of these forces.Energy outside or inside is a bit tricky .What makes sense is gravitational potential energy between any two masses.Yet you cannot pinpoint where that energy is .Yes it is sort of stored in the field.The field extends throughout the space till infinity.Now in field theories you have a concept of energy densities.That is how much energy is stored in a unit volume at that point.This density it turns out depends on the field stength at that point .
Eg Electrostatic energy density=1/2(EPSILON)E^2
Gravitational= 1/2(1/4piG)F^2
where F is gravitational field strength.
You can integrate this within limits to get the energy in a volume.If you consider volume between two masses and integrate and also integrate for all volume outside the masses then the integral in second case may exceed the first one.Note that this is not the general case.But it may happen.So what you say may be right if I have interprated you correctly.
You are bang on when you say larger the mass more the bungees .Actually it’s the concentration of these bungees at that point that determines field strength.So if you find more bungees squeezed in a space there’s more field strength there.Again that’s field line concept.A tangent to that cord gives direction of Force at that point.Yes it’s kind of spring like more you stretch and make it straight more it would try to curl and pull .
The thing is lots of things you said makes sense and lots of it doesn’t or may be I am unable to understand you.A lot of work has already been done on gravity and all other forces which are called conservative i,e line integral vanishes when the loop is closed.The point is our understanding at this point of time on these forces is very good and you need to study some undergraduate physics text to completely appreciate it.So don’t build your own theory and take time to appreciate what legions of scientists have already done.
