Italian charm bracelets?

My cousin has decided to get all the bridesmaids Italian charm bracelets for her wedding thankyou gift. I think this is a great idea–she collects them and I’ve been interested in it but just haven’t ever gotten one.

The question is–what kind to get? She has a 5.5 mm and doesn’t like it b/c she says the 9mm is the most common size for charms. But I was searching on ebay and they come in shiny, matte, pave, gold edging. I don’t know which one she should pick.

I–of course–want all my Charms to match. I can’t stand to have one enamel, one shiny, one matte. So if you have one of these, do you find more Charms in one vs the other?

Do you wish you’d gotten the starter bracelet matte instead of shiny? Any opinions would be helpful here.

And she found a lot of 10 of those tools that help you get the Charms on–anyone use those? Are they useful or a waste of money?

I’d go with the most common size. I’d get them all shiny because most that I’ve found are shiny with an enamel something on it. The tools don’t sound that exciting–there’s a trick to it, and once you figure out that trick it’s not worth the tool. Just pull it out and slide the opening where the bar is…If she’s got a lot of those bracelets, she should be able to teach you how to do it.

I begged my ex boyfriend to get one of those bracelets for me. I wore it for a while, but it got to the point where it was constantly pinching the hairs on my wrist, so I stopped wearing it, and haven’t since. I still have the bracelet however, but ditto on it being a fad that’s already gone.
