i need to connect a thick chain link to the inside of a steel tube. Any suggestions on how i would go about?
it? how would you attach a steel chain link to a top of a 1″ tube?
If the link can be loose, put a steel rod through matching drilled holes in the tube and the link and grind or peen the end smooth then braze or weld the join. If the link has to be snug against the side or the center of the tube can not be obstructed then either cut the end off a smaller link of chain or bend a rod to make a U that will fit over the thick link’s side and which will be long enough to penetrate the side. Drill a pair of holes spaced to match the U and pass the U over the link and through the holes, gripping one leg with Vice Grip pliers to position the U. Use some combination of grinding, cutoff and brazing to attach the leg to the wall then remove the pliers and repeat the process with the other leg of the U.
If you need to, epoxy will position the link on the U while the metal to metal contact takes most of the load.
