TIN CUP STYLE NECKLACES

How did this style get this name? How are they made.  What is the different stringing methods.  Which is strongest.  How does all the factors affect durability, and your cost?  Tin Cup Pearl Necklaces are very popular.  Many combinations in  Pearl Necklaces, gemstones with pearls necklaces, gemstone necklaces and Tin Cup style with pendants added are available.

This style name basically means any necklace with some space between the gemstones, accents,  or pearls.  I don’t think the style was first was made for the  1996  movie “Tin Cup”, but they were definitely popularized by it.   This beautiful pearl look was shown throughout the movie by Renee’ Russo.  The pearls in the movie look to be about 10 mm pearls about 15 mm apart (estimate), and strung on  tan silk.

Tin Cup’s popularity also extends to the tiered look, and they are used with other necklaces of  silver or gold, and more than one length is often worn together.  Tin Cup style, in real or imitation pearls is a standard with brides, and bridesmaids.  Most tin cups are made with 6 or 8 mm diameter round pearls..  Many sizes of Pearls, and gemstones are used from about 5 mm to 14 millimeters ( 25.4mm is 1 inch) or more.

Stringing methods:

The main 3 strings methods are (1) silk, or other natural or synthetic cord (2) Stranded stainless steel beading wire, (3)  Karat Gold or Silver, Plated gold or silver, and other metal chain.

Cord.  Traditional silk thread is often used with knots on each side of tin cup  pearl, gemstone, or glass beads.  Many  types of cording can be used. 100% silk is a traditional favorite.  Other types of cord including satin (rayon or nylon), aramid (strong synthetic), nylon, and others, natural, and man made.

Karat Gold, Sterling Silver and other metal chains are often used to make tin cup styles.  Open chains are cut into sections.  The pearl or other bead is wired between the sections with wire through the bead with a connecting eye looped on each side of the bead.  Wire connecting loops often have about two extra wraps.  This is called a wrapped loop, and is more secure than the non looped eye version.  Chains like snake and other non open chain, or those with small open links can have pearls, or beads directly bonded  securely in place at their stations along the chain.  There are no connecting eyes in this style.

Multi-strand Beading wire is often the stringing  method used.  It is low diameter high strength, and gives drape like silk.  Wire is 7, 19 or 49 strands of stainless steel tightly wrapped with a tough invisible nylon sheath. The invisible nylon coating makes it also very  tarnish resistant. For the best  strength, and silk like drape choose 49 strand.  This professional grade is used in higher quality Tin Cup necklaces.  It is available with gold or silver plating for a great look. The 7, 19, and 49 strand are called  good, better, and best by wire distributors..  Most of the fashion, lower cost Jewelry  in stores is 7 strand (you were not surprised were you).  Wire uses strong crimps for connections of clasps, and is  stronger than silk, or other  cord.

Freshwater Pearls Quality Notes:

Freshwater Pearls (see our pearls quality article for extra details) are used often as the pearls in a Tin Cup necklace cost is affected by the quality, and size of pearls.  A quick quality summary would be that higher value better looking freshwater pearls are round, near round, low blemish, without  banding, and in akoya white, or natural ( pastels) colors like lavender, peach, and grey.  Bright, intense colors are dyed, but still show pearl luster.  Chocolate (dyed) freshwater pearls have been very popular.

clogged kitchen sinks- how do i ise a snake to unclog the steel pipe? what causes the clogging of the pipe?

-it’s an older cast iron pipe
-i removed all the pvc back to the iron pipe
-it’s an older house (’50′s?)
-how far in do i need to get the snake?
-could it possibly be “broken” or unable to be unclogged?
-

Kitchen sinks usually clog pretty close to the sink. Most of the time it’s due to cheaper low horse power garbage disposals. They don’t chop the food up enough and then the food get’s in the drain and expands with the water and cause a blockage. Potato peelings and pasta are the biggest culprits.
Sometime you can use a shop-vac to suck the stuff out.
