Sterling Silver Chain Necklace

Italian Sterling Silver Chain
We bought this as a Christmas gift for our niece who is 12 years old. We ended up having to make a last minute switch with a gift we bought for another niece because once we opened it up, we knew it was WAY too flimsy for her wrist. We had checked the measurement and she has a wrist the size of an adult woman so we were pretty sure it would fit. But the links are so thin and flimsy that we were too afraid that it would break. So we gave it to our other 12 year old niece who has a much more dainty wrist.

Lightweight and supple, this Omega chain is perfect to wear alone because it is wide enough to reflect lots of light and very comfortable to wear. The Omega chain is round so it does look like a thick Omega that would cost much more. Each chain has a sterling silver extender chain so you can wear it from 16″ to 18″. Beautiful, new sterling silver chain, made by a leading Italian manufacturer. The solid sterling silver chain is marked with 925 & ITALY and the clasp is marked 925 so you know that

How to check authenticity of silver (chain) necklace?
My mom bought a silver (chain) necklace in Hong Kong in the early 1980′s. This being the case, it isn’t labelled with 925 or SS like in the U.S. for sterling silver. Is there a simple home test to check how much % of real silver is in it (or if it even is silver)? Thank you for your time.
are there any stamps/labels on it at all? Has it turned black/tarnished a bit during the time you have had it? It should have if it is sterling silver. Do you have a silver cleaning cloth? If the chain is sterling, you should be able to get some sort of black mark off it when wiping with the cloth. There are test acids available, they are not very expensive and they will tell you whether it is silver or not. Given the price of silver, I wouldn’t spend too much trying to find out though (unless it’s a very big/expensive necklace). If you like it, why not just enjoy it as it is.
Cheers
