How to install press in Moroso wheel studs?
I’ve got a 72 Nova with 8.5inch rearend and i have bought a set of Moroso press-in wheel studs.I know i will be able to press the old studs out but to install the new studs will i have to take the axles out. I am running a longer wheel stud. 7/16″-20 x 2-7/8″ Moroso part number 46150
You could take the axle out, but that would be a lot of extra work. You could do things the old fashioned way, and save a lot of labor. If you have air tools it is very easy, without it is a bit harder but still possible.
Start by jacking up the car, making sure that it is securely supported, and removing the wheels. Take a hammer and strike the old studs directly on the end, driving them out. It may take several good blows to loosen the lugs. Once they are free, spin the axle to the point where you can remove each lug from the rear.
Install the new lugs in place of the old. Take a standard lug nut and put it on backwards, with the flat surface in. Tighten the lug nut to pull the lug into the hole. A power impact wrench will make the job easier, but you can do it by hand.
Repeat for each lug.
