Rings are gaining importance in men’s accessories these days and there are many who have started to sport rings with all kinds of wear. Celebrities like David Beckham have started wearing them during advertisements and photo shoots and thus the rings have become even more popular. Can a tungsten ring get an engraving?
My husband and I are nearing our 1-year anniversary. I suggested maybe getting engravings on our wedding bands.
My ring is a simple one, that will easily be able to get an engraving. My husband has a tungsten ring. I read online about laser engravings, but do they do those before selling them, or can one send a ring out for laser engraving? Thanks!
And just for fun – and to assist in my brainstorming – any suggestions for an engraving?)

Tungsten is one of the toughest metals that exists. Many conventional metal-machining tools are made out of it. It is hard to machine using conventional methods.
Wire EDM can engrave anything you want in tungsten. It is a great non-conventional processing technology, but can cost a little more. A decade ago it might have cost on the order of $100-$200 to EDM something into a wedding ring, but I do not know what todays processes cost.

EDM could engrave two lines of text on a wedding ring.. its very high precision. You know the fine-ness of the lines in the writing on the “one ring”.. EDM could (almost) do that.

It is going to take a powerful laser to make a good mark in tungsten… I don’t know if I would go that way without seeing some of the lasers other tungsten works. I would do that for any shop you use. Don’t let someone experiment on your wedding band.. if they can machine it well – they better have a sample of whatever material you work in to show you.
