Can a white topaz chip?
I have a 4 ct, white topaz from the 1930′s. Due to wearing it everyday and being hard with my hands. I chipped it somehow…I haven’t contacted my jeweler as to if this is truly an authentic gem. My grandfather aquired it in south east Asia in the late 1930′s. I need to find out if it is a real gem and if it can be cut to reshapen it to it’s original beauty.
Yes, any gem stone can chip even a diamond b/c of their cuts certain points are made weaker than others. It is also possible to get it re-cut if you want it to, but it will be a smaller stone afterwards if you want it in the exact same shape, or he could possibly just smooth over the chip (depending on how big it is). No one on here could say if its genuine or not w/o looking at it, but when you do take it to the jewelers they will be able to tell you for little or no money. But I wouldnt worry to much about it b/c all stones can chip. Sorry for the chip.
