Watches: the Timeless Classics

Clocks are everywhere, from your car stereo, to your cell phone. It’s rare that you find yourself unaware of the hour, and the days of stopping strangers to ask if they have the time have long since been forgotten. But even in this minute-savvy age, one thing hasn’t change: the number of people who own watches. Many would think that the practice would have become obsolete, when all you have to do is flip open your cell to catch the time, and yet watches are still one of the most popular gift items for any occasion. What makes them so useful?

The truth is, they aren’t, not if you are keeping up with any of the number of current technological advances. But one thing that they are, and will always remain, are timeless classics, items that remind us of another time, accessories that have become so engraved in our minds as necessary that we actually feel naked without them.

But just because they are a traditional piece of a nearly forgotten era, doesn’t mean that they haven’t kept up with the current one. Here is a lit of a few of the coolest, most modern watches on the market today.

Project Reveal Black Stealth Wrist Watch

Who says watches have to be flashy? This cool little time keeper features a modern design, with a black face that slowly reveals the hour as it approaches. It sits on a comfortable black stretch band that brings a further casual element to the cool style of the Project Reveal.

LED Lightmare Wrist Watch

The look of stainless steel is a one that has been recently adopted for the use in many products, and it combines with the unique face design of this piece, using red lights placed in strategetic locations to tell you the time.

Swiss Invicta Pro Diver Watch

Many times people don’t seem to understand why someone would need to know the time when they are hundreds of feet under the water. But for those of you who like the more adventurous lifestyle of professional level diving, they know all too well.

The Swiss Invicta is a stainless steel watch with a sporty design, attached to a matching metal band. It can tell time up to 330 feet under water, and it has a wonderful single-push safety catch so you don’t end up losing it amongst the local marine life.

Life Evolution Design L69 Time Module LED Wrist Watch

Not everyone is looking for a suave watch, or a nicely understated one. Sometimes the geek in all of us wins out, and that’s when you should turn to the Life Evolution. Not only does it look like something out of the original Star Trek, but it has an easy to read face, that spells out the numbers in tiny red dots that seem to scream “70′s retro”. If you like the classic sci-fi look, then this is the perfect watch for you.

There you have it, my top picks for the coolest modern watches on the market. No matter what you’re into, these funky time pieces are sure to help keep an old classic alive.

Is my Rolex real?

This watch has a “sweeping” (not ticking) second hand, the date is magnified X2, there are no misspellings, the Rolex Crown Logo has 5 points, there is a 5-digit serial number printed on the back which looks like a hologram, “18k” is engraved to the lower left of that 5-digit hologram number, and there is a 4-digit number on the wrist band. How can I tell if it’s real or not without taking it to a jewerly store – who may keep it if it’s a fake?
I got the watch as a gift.

“Imposter” Rolex watches are pretty hard to tell apart from the real thing.

I don’t know if there’s anything in your description that gives a clue or a tipoff that the one you have is not the real McCoy….

Whether you want to or not, it’s best to take it to a jewelry shop or appraiser to get the final word…however, I suspect your reluctance to do so is an indication that you didn’t buy or obtain this watch from a reputable Rolex dealer, eh?
If it was a “gift”, then consider the source.
